One of my favorite custom auto builders in the scene today is Jason Bullock of Bullock’s Bodywerks. Just about every show that I go to has an auto or two that he did work on at one time or another. This was also true for the Xtreme Kreations Auto Show in September 2003. As luck and bad luck would have it, I found a Bullock truck to feature. Now, let me explain about the luck and bad luck part. The luck part was the fact that I was granted the opportunity to feature a truck that had been featureless, meaning no one had picked it up yet, and on top of that it was a Bullock built truck! As for the bad luck part, it just so happens that the “alleged” owner at the time was not the owner at all, so things sort of fell through at first, but after a lot of phone calls things were finally sorted out… as you can see.
Around December time frame, the true owner came forth, Jerry Hill, and he granted me the opportunity to tell you, the readers, about this awesome body scrapin’, frame layin’, ass in the grass, pebble pushin’, low ballin’ s-dime, hauler! Whew… try saying that three times in a row when you are really drunk!
As I said before, this is a Bullock built truck and being a follower of Jason’s work, there is nothing, but love for his talents here on ESM! So, without further delay let me break it down for you.
To start things off this 1997 Chevy S-10 started out as any other S-10, boring and “Plain Jane”. Yeah, that was until Jason Bullock laid his eyes upon it and after getting the official nod from the “alleged” owner at the time, Jason went to work.
First, the truck needed a lower stance and bagging it was just part of the plan. In order to keep every bit of sunlight from getting underneath the truck, Jason cut out the stock cab and bed floor, hence achieving a four inch body drop. In the rear, the suspension consists of a monster tubular custom cross member and four link with Firestone air springs. Under the nose, Belltech dropped spindles were installed with a set of Firestone air springs as well... mission accomplished.
With the stance squared away, it was time to smooth out the body lines and shave this future show king of all of its former self. The door handles, tailgate handle, gas filler door, all body lines, and antenna were shaved smooth. A molded in Sir Michaels roll pan replaces the bulky stock bumper and a set of euro taillights add the finishing touch. On the nose, Jason added a cowl induction hood, billet grille, billet bow tie, billet marker light covers, clear corner lenses, and a set of Street Scene sport mirrors.
The body was smooth and good-to-go, so it was time to lay down a wicked paint scheme that would catch a few stares right on the spot. As you can see, Jason didn’t let us down with a combination of bright blue flames on a “just right” yellow paint job. When the paint dried, a set of 17 inch Boss wheels replaced the rolling stock and it was time to jump into the interior.
One of the first things a person notices about the interior of Jerry’s truck, besides its obvious cleanness, is that the dash has been smoothed of just about everything. This is a noticeable signature of Jason’s work. After speaking with Jason at the Hunter’s show, just a few weeks ago, now I know why. Jason mentioned that his "S-Dime", which will also be a future feature, was re-built to have a street rod appeal. If you look at most street rods today everything is smoothed and hidden from sight. No doubt this is the look that Jason was going for in this truck and we applaud his attention to detail. The interior is a combination of paint that matches the exterior, as well as yellow vinyl and gray tweed, laid by master upholsterer, Brandon McDonald of Lebanon, Tennessee. A custom built middle console houses the switches and gauges for the dynamic suspension, so Jerry can easily make the truck go from driving height to kissing the pavement. Finishing off the interior is a few billet accessories and a custom CD head unit.
This truck is a work of art with street rod appeal, this is one of the things I like about Jason Bullock’s work and no doubt Jerry likes it, too. In any case, if Jerry ever decides that he no longer wants to be the owner of his wicked s-dime again, he can always throw the keys our way and we will gladly take it off his hands!
UPDATE: Since the time that these photos were taken, a slew of chrome has been added to the engine. Unfortunately, we were unable to get pictures of the engine before this feature, but trust me… it looks really good!
Shout Out: "Thanks to Jason Bullock of Bullock's Bodywerks, Brandon McDonald, family, friends, and Elite Streets Mag for the feature!" -Jerry
